All natural, undyed 2 ply alpaca/merino blend (80% alpaca, 20% merino wool) yarn.
200 yard skeins.
5 shades of neutral tan/brown/gray/creamy white.
New England raised animals (Borgstein Alpaca Farm, Medfield MA).
Small batch yarn processing (Moorit Hill Farm. Troy ME).
~15 wraps/inch.
It knits up like a DK/worsted knitting weight yarn.
Single strand gauge: 5 - 5.5 stitches per inch on US #6 or #7 needles.
Double strand gauge: 4 - 4.5 stitches per inch on US #10 or #10.5 needles. I use a double strand to do hats and mittens, single strand to do multi-color hats and sweaters.
Alpaca is so soft, silky, lightweight, and wonderfully warm. The merino wool tames the fuzz a bit and adds a little elasticity, making it a dream to work with. The animals have lived on a small local farm, and their fleece was processed and spun into yarn at another small New England mill.
